Copyfree Initiative

The Copyfree Initiative is dedicated to supporting and promoting copyfree licensing policy, maintaining the Copyfree Standard Definition, certifying licenses as compliant or non-compliant with that standard, and fostering a healthy community of people interested in copyfree policy. Copyfree policy is valuable as a means of promoting and ensuring ease of legal access to copyrightable works of all kinds -- open culture, open source, and so on. Fight back against locked-in code and culture, license incompatibility, and misdirection of creative resources toward legal complexity. Pay creators, not lawyers. Unfetter your mind. As an unregistered nonprofit entity, the Copyfree Initiative survives primarily on gifts of time and money by its founder and individual contributors and supporters. There is always more work to be done on developing web presence enhancements, improved tools, educational information, and collections of data which also require periodic checks for corrections and updates. Increasing the level of gifts provided to the initiative can free up more contributor time to get more done, as well has help defray costs of infrastructure and legal services such as license analysis. Eventual uses may include full-time staff to ensure more consistent attention to the initiative's goals, marketing and social media budget, registration of a legal entity to better ensure longevity and reach of the initiative, and sponsorship projects to improve all of copyfree ecosystem and culture worldwide.
